Carson

George Carson was a businessman the 1850’s. He married Victoria Dominguez, a daughter of the family which owned Rancho San Pedro (the Dominguez Ranch), a 75,000 acre gift from the King of Spain in 1784. George and Victoria lived in the Rancho’s adobe home in the Dominguez Hills area of Carson. George and Victoria’s son, John Manuel Carson, was the head of the Dominguez Water Corporation which helped to develop much of the area. When the community incorporated in 1968, they narrowly choose the name of Carson over the historical Dominguez name.

The Dominguez home still exists as an historical museum called the Dominguez Ranch Adobe (California Historical Landmark No. 152). Tours are available on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons. The community is proud of the Home Depot Center (a world class soccer and tennis facility) recently completed near the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills, also located in Carson. The population of Carson in 2000 was 89,730. As Chair of the Community Committee of the South Bay Association of Realtors, Caren recently hosted a breakfast where Realtors could meet and discuss issues with Carson Mayor Jim Dear.
