Gardena 

Gardena is located on a former Indian hunting and fishing site. The town originated in the 1880’s and was further developed as a stop on the railroad line running from Redondo Beach to San Pedro. Gardena has allowed gambling for many years and is the home of the Normandie Club and the Hustler Casino, owned by Larry Flint. Gardena City Goverment has suffered difficult financial problems in the last few years by incurring significant endebtedness, but the city has made significant progress toward resolving those issues by eliminating a $5.2 million dollar deficit and is currently operating under a $3 million surplus.

The city was incorporated in 1930 and had a 2000 population of 57,746.
