Hermosa Beach 

The word Hermosa is Spanish for Beautiful. A residential subdivision was begun in the community in 1901, about the time the Pacific Electric Red Cars began transporting individuals from throughout the region to Hermosa Beach. The city built a pier in 1904 and incorporated in 1907. As a beach community, it is the site of restaurants, entertainment, hotels and luxury housing. The population in 2000 was 18,566.
